SEPTEMBER
The online application for Hesburgh-Yusko Class of 2016 opens September 1, 2011.
The first step in the application process is to secure the nomination from your guidance or college counselor. Make an appointment with your counselor to discuss the application process and your qualifications.

OCTOBER
Applicants should complete the Early Action application for the University of Notre Dame.
- Prospective applicants should apply to the University of Notre Dame to be considered for our Program. The Early Action application option is non-binding and non-exclusive. The application to Notre Dame is available here, and for more information, visit the Notre Dame Admissions website
- If you are interested in our Program but plan to apply to Notre Dame in Regular Action, please call our office at 574.631.1111.
Work on the application to The Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program.
- Create a personal account to begin the application process. You are responsible for entering your counselor’s contact information, and he or she will receive an e-mail granting access to the online Counselor Nomination Form.
- Request recommendations from two people who know you well. When you enter their names and contact information, they will receive an e-mail granting them access to the online recommendation forms.
- Please direct your recommenders and counselor to our website, and share with them the Program’s four specific selection criteria. The most powerful letters of recommendation articulate how you embody these criteria.
NOVEMBER
The Early Action application to Notre Dame is due November 1, 2011.
The application to The Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars program is due November 15, 2011.
Please note that your Program application cannot be submitted fully before the two recommendations and Counselor Nomination Form have also been submitted.
DECEMBER 2011 – JANUARY 2012
Applications under review.
FEBRUARY
Semi-finalist decisions will be announced via e-mail, and in early February, phone or Skype interviews of all advanced applicants will occur.
Finalists will be announced in late February.
MARCH
The Finalist Visit is scheduled for March 24-27, 2012. All expenses for the visit to Notre Dame’s campus, including round-trip transportation, are fully underwritten by the Program. Finalists will interview with teams of faculty, staff, alumni, and students and will learn more about what the Program and University have to offer.
APRIL
Final decision letters mailed.
